Protest against fast foods in general

Ok, I did this on friday at the McDonalds on 60th and siver spring, just thought I say I did it when I would more likly have people come to Mcdonalds sice it was black friday. First off, I always had hated McDonalds food, it just disgusts me, there are just no nutrients in their food, also fast food resturants has been keeping America and the world obese more then ever. I just choose Mcdonalds because its the most common fast food resturant known. I don't see why people neglect their health by going to McDonalds. So I beleive that if I could organize flyers to hand out for the first 100 people that come in to McDonalds, maybe they would change their minds and eat something much more healthy.

So, then, it wasn't fun standing outside but it was the only way to get people's attension, trying to change their minds about the food they are eating at fast food resturants. what was on the flyers were information about the amount of calories they were eating. For example, I got one person to go eat somewhere else because I told him that a Big Mac is 600 calories, and he was going to have two! I also learned that a 1/4 with chees is 530, which convince me never to eat at Mcdonalds again. Anyway there was a list that explain some food items at Mcdonalds of how much saturated fat there is, and how could increase the chances of an heart attack because of clogged artierys.

Also on the flyer was a before and after picture Morgan Spurlock when he did that movie of Super size me, I thought that had helped a lot because most people were disgusted by the way he looked after 30 days of just eating big mac, fries, etc. I believe this had what got people most people toturn around and go to eat something more healthy, or I hope.

I was actually kind of surpise that some people took notice of me and turned around, but if they decided to go in anyway, I think I did all I could of done. People in the drive thru were easy to get, cuz they couldn't walk away from me, lol, but I do remember this one old lady that was went somewhere else because she read the part where it could increase the chance of having a heart attack, she took off. I thought I spend time well earned there, idk.

I actually felt pretty good after doing this, even though some people just disz me and just walked in, ha. I wonder if I should of persuade them and stop, but I thought that they already made up their mind, hmph. Things I do differently...well, I like to try different resturants, see if I got a different response, or show what has happen to people that have eaten Mcdonalds for a week, a year, or even their whole life, see what happens, if you continue to eat their.

I think I help some individuals with eating something more heathly then mcdonalds, which made feel good, but I think I will try something much easier, then doing this in winter... I will advise people to eat at places like subway, or at least not like burger king, or wendys, or whatever. I want people to feel better with their health.

Lysistrata people!!!

Ok wtf, no one has been posting stuff on Lysistrat, and I thought I was late on this shiz

Umm, yea I read it but....

Could you guys find any symbolsims in this play, how about motifs, dynamic characters, crap. I read this play for enjoyment cuz like in the other plays, it was so boring so it forced us to look at symbolism and all that jazz, but come on, I couln't find anythimg! At least I had enjoyed this play compaered to the other two. I know that women oppression was a theme, so was war and peace, hmm maybe I didn't forget everything about this play.

I certaintily remember the puns, I mean come on, English class isn't suppos to be this funny. (sorry Ms.D if your reading this) Comparing Lysistrata to the other plays made them seem like garbage. This play took me like around 2 hours to complete, but the others like 4 hours just because I had to go back and look for pistols, windows and that other crap. I hope we could have a class discussion on the meaning of all of these puns too, that would be awesome, and the other stuff, just to make sure that I actually read it and not lost, oh well.

NEW ENDING!!!!

Comissioner talking
:Well Lysistrata we see that we can't give in to your demands cuz we like war so much, but the men don't know what to do with their sexuailty. So some of them have turned gay cuz of your stupid abstinence thing so unless you want to save the human race, I would stop.
Lysistrata talking:
NOOOOOO thats not fair the war needs to be stop to perseve the peace in the world,
Comissioner talking:
Look lady, you already have one hell of a war, do u want to end the human race too?
Lysistrata talking:
Don't listen to him ladies, we can still hold our ground. Eventrually they will give in.
20 years later
There is not a single human on the face of the earth. Abstinece is a bad thing. Don't do it to try to stop a war. amen

How else could Arisrophanes showed female oppression.

He did a good job showing this theme of female oppression, but I felt that he could of done more in this theme. For example, the women could of leave the men until they stoped fighting, or maybe even demanded more rights from the men, to be equal in government. I also think that he should of showed more examples of how the men were feeling about this. That way we could of gotten more laughs. Lysistrata should of got them to sign a peace treaty for like 10 years, that way they will be reminded on why they shouldn't start any wars, although the next generation may forget. These are all the ideas I can come up for now, I'll go back later

Would Lysistrata idea work now?

Before we did a journal on this, I was thinking about it and thought about it for a while cuz I kept changing my opinion. For example, the war with Iraq and the U.S. could of been ended if all of the women on both sides of the war, did abstinence, it might of worked, but it would of been hard for women then are married to husbands that arn't in the war to do this. And times have change were men can go on without sex, and this isn' fair to the troops that are over in Iraq. Also the Iraqians that are in the war may not care. I don't know, I just thought about this before we actually had a journal about it.

Pages 83-90

Hilarious on how Mrrrhine teases Kinesias. She now has all of the cards in her hand because he has to listen to her in order to get what he wants. She keeps on going back to get the most ridiculous thins, and his Kinesias reaction is just priceless, because he starts praying, wondering why on earth does is she doing this to him. Then I like how he says "Relax? I'm dying a slow death by dry goods," cuz he is just desperate at this point, pretty much would do anything. Lysistrata proberly should of ask for more from the men cuz they are just going nuts, based on Kinesias reaction. I lol when Mrrhine offered him perfume, she just wanted to piss him off. I just thought this scene overall was hilararious. It must be funny being in his position but Mrrhine gotta do what she gotta do in order to accomplish peace.

The ending to lysistrata?

I was quite disappointed as the book ended as I expected, how the men would resist at first but give in at the end. I didn't like that people were dancing and singing and the end, not that I don't like happy endings, but I would of perfer of some twist since this a comendy. And when we were doing this in groups, the person that summarizes, comes up with question etc, the predictor in our group also hated predicting because it wasn't a surprise that their was peace in the end. I mean that still made this a great book, with all of the comedy, but it felt like I was reading the ending again because I knew what was going to happen.
Still compaing the ending to the other two books, it still beats them, becasue it wasn't a peaceful ending. Well, I mean that the ending wasn't bad, but it was like sooooo expected. I didn't see that the women in the other two plays were going to commit suicide. Please can people tell me what they thought about the ending?

My topic on Lysistrata.

My question is to show how the author (can't remember name now) shows how he/she creates how men are violent/aggressive, and war like, and to show their counterpart women, that they are peaceful, resolved conflicts without violence, and willing to perserve life. So far, I think that this topic looks easier then it looks, because doing it orally would be difficult, because I think that I would have to to be able to repeat some stuff. Finding the quotes was pretty easy, with an explanation, but I then feel that this is going to be a lecture repeating what I say, I don't feel comfortable with that. Just wanted to say on how I felt about it.

College dudes

College sounds more particpation grade then doing written work, I like it. I'm tired of work just being shoved down my work, rather actually LEARNING something. Although, I wonder how they grade on particpation. I like the idea that college english classes are like TOK, awesom with every class being like kronke's. That way we learn more and be able to teach it to other classmates. This makes me wonder on why mps teaches this way, why don't they change the curriculum for juniors and seniors to get them ready for college.
I.B. is going to make college a joke. There is no way college can be harder then I.B., just no fricken way, It may be about the same amount of difficulty, but thats a good thing because they made me feel prepare for college. I also thought they were going to lecture us on how college would work, but they seemed more dependent on us for discussion. I wish I would of been more prepared.

first 36 pages

well so far, its not bad, there isn't really much that is going on, as I think the play so far has been led out, men keep fighting in wars, and the women are wishing to stop them by no more sex. A lot easier to understand then the other plays, as the themes seem easier to pick up in this one. One question that has been bugging me are the names, I mean, some of them are hard to pronounce, whats up with that, idk. Just somethin I figure that I express on what I think so far

start of Lysistrata, opening thoughts?

Compare to the other plays, this play seems to be "ancient", so I guess we can all expect a different style of writing. Although, the style of writing could be effective by the translation, and I don't don't like that the translators had "tone" down the style of writing in this play. I'm actually hype to read this one, as sure, themes and symbolsm we all are suppose to look for, but this play goes way back in history, so I'm curious on what the Spartans, or whoever is in the play on what they do in their time. I wish I was living there to get a feel what of they are going through, hopfully this book will do that :)

Has anyone read Bernarda in spanish?

A lot of Rufus King students take spanish and I wonder if anyone has looked at the spanish copy? I mean it was translated to english, and if anyone has read the spanish one, please inform this class on what its like, thx

If I had to be a character from one of the two plays, it would be...

Hedda or Maria Joesfa becuase no one can tell them what to do, not even society has restrictions on them. The thing that I like about these two women is that they fight for what they beleive, such as Maria wants to get marry and will not let Bernarda stand in her way or Hedda controls Tesman in order to get the valuables she wants. I like these characters because of their attitudes, what do u think.

Whats up with Hedda's power later on?

During the beginning of act 1, Hedda is this all dominating character with easily controlling her husband and using the pistols to symbolize power. Later on towards the beginning and act 4, she starts to lose her power with her husband ( the guy that says uh) who starts saying what she should do. What Ibsen trying to prove in this play, women were losing power in society, or men are too contolling.

Wagner would tear Tesman up.

"uh is a waste of your time, and more importantly my time" Wagner. If Tesman was a student of Wagner's he would blow Wagner up. lol, he may even quit teching here the amount of times George says, well, you know. Just that it was kind of funny when I remember Wagner after forgetting my folder!!! Wow, something good came out of this forgetting my folder, yeaaa.

Lövborg is a pretty cool character

Don't ask me why I'm writing this but, come on, he looks like a hero to me. Someone that was an alcoholic for a long period of time, and mention to fight it, and even is writing books and going for this new professorship. Out of all of the characters, he is the coolest so far, because that's like some who was getting a 1.2 GPA improving to a 3.6 GPA ( and yea, he's full IB). I mean thats how much more effort he has put in from his past focusing on the future. I beleive that everyone should follow his tps, not being an alcoholic, lol, no. I mean, if you dig yourself into a hole, you climb back out, come on, everyone has a ton of homework, and we manage to fight it through and be homework free, at least for a little while. Response to this please, and tell me what u think of me opinion.

Comparing and contrasting Lovburg and Tesman.

These characters are like opposites! Tesman is studying the past, while Lovburg focuses on the future, tesman is hoping for the professorship, although Lovburg is more likely, one is smart, the other.....confused. Lovburg has been looking towards the future with his new book, and professorship opening to take when Tesman is focusing on...yea, pretty much nothing. With Hedda now with Tesman, what does this say about her, she rather focus more on the past, then focusing on the future with Lovburg, I don't know, but Hedda was wih both of them, what do u think.

Which play did you like better, Bernarda or Hedda?

To be honest I wasn't two interested in either play, but if I had to choose one, it would be Bernarda because when reading Hedda, I felt that Ibsen was only writing to show motifs, symbolism, and authority, themes, etc, when in Bernarda, I could picture myself as Adela. I was always questioning my self, what would I do in her shoes, how can I rebel against my own mother. Also, Adella is around our (the class) age, so I guess we could all relate to her. I picture the characters in Hedda were proberly around their 30's, but I really liked the character Hedda, she remined me of judge Judy, lol. She's slways taking control and demanding to get what she wants, but that wasn't enough for me. I felt more into the play Bernarlda then Hedda, what do u think is better?

Re read Bernarda Alba and notice the color green to be a important motif

Didn't notice this the first time reading this as green symbloizes to me that oppression within the family. Like green is meant for Adela as dons a dress of dark green when everyone else wears black. I'm not sure what green stands for, but I took it as Adela wearing it, theorfore, concluded that it stood for oppression, thats all I have to say.

Whats up with these names?

Ok, I know that these names are not common in the 1930's and all of them are goofy. IDK, but is there some kind of deeper meaning that Ibsen is trying to prove because if I remember correctly, amelia means something like work. After checking wikipedia, it means "industrious" and "fertile". So is Ibsen trying to prove a point that their name are reflected in their character, because a lot could of been proven in papers that we all wrote.

Bernarda Alba Authority has control over whom?

When we were all reading Bernarlda Alba, I always thought that she has control over all of daughters, except Adela her mother, Maria. Even though they are like refusing to listen Bernarda, is it for the same reason? I thought that Adela was rebelling against Bernarda because of her age, she still has hopes and dreams at (I think) at age 17. I wouldn't listen to her either if I had to stay in a house for 8 years. The reason that Maria Joesfa is rebelling is to for two different reasons, one- to show her daughters that they can stand up to Bernarda, and two- she has nothing to lose at age 80. These are the only two characters I saw that stood up to Bernarlda, anyone else saw rebellion against Bernarda?
